Default 15 cm snow cover

Pretty much as predicted. Snow fell from 1330 yesterday, temp 2.0c and continued until around 0500 today, temp -1,0c.

It took until 1630 before it really started to accumulate, by which time 3mm had fallen and was never particularly heavy maintaining the 1mm/1cm per hour rate throughout.

The ground is still warm, so the actual accumulation not as great as it might have been, even so, 15cm is quite impressive for October.

Left here at 0700 to drive approx 50 km for an appointment, with the altitude of the road varying between 600m and 946m. At the lowest point probably in the region of 5cm, whilst easily 25cm at the peak. 50 cm+ on the mountains just to the East. Roads were difficult, with a large amount of trees blocking the roads under the weight of snow.

Some local discussion about October snows indicate that it is fairly common, about once every 4/5 years. Although there were some substantial falls locally, apparently it doesn't come close to 1999, when snow fell throughout the month and accumulated amounts were between 60 and 80 cm's and one of those locations was Vichy, not exactly high ground.

DM. 740m. La Moratille. Correze. France.
