15 to 20cm snow forecast
October has been a remarkable month here, exceptionally dry warm and very sunny. The first air frost arrived on the 2nd, a couple of weeks later than normal, but only one other since.
12 days over 20c and most days my diary entry simply reads, sunny all day.
On Thursday it was 22.7c, yesterday 1.9c with a dusting of snow locally above 700m. Light snow fell for much of the day and during the night.
Precipitation is due to arrive shortly, turning to snow with quite a fall forecast. In the mountains of Auvergne just to our East, up to 55cm is forecast and snow is due in our area down to 400m, possibly lower.
The most important element is that we will actually have some precipitation, with more forecast this week. Farmers have suffered badly here with prolonged drought and local water supplies are at risk.
I have a hospital appointment tomorrow morning (minor) and will have a difficult journey over hills up to 1000m. Oddly enough the last hospital visit I had in East Yorkshire, was about 7 years ago around 25 April and we had 6 inches of snow overnight. I will try to avoid a hospital appointment for July, that would be tempting fate.
