Hi, Paul,
No photo links but I have Met O 10cm bent stem thermometers. I make a
pilot hole with a dibber then put the vertical part in until the
horizontal part rests on the bare soil surface. Be prepared for
breakages during freeze / thaw. I've gone through three in two years!
Best wishes,

So you dont tie it down in anyway ? - Just thinking about about the
wind etc.
Also is it protected by fencing to keep rabbits etc away ?

many Thanks

Hi, Paul,
I think you must mean the ones that have a stand. Mine are the Met O
90 degree bent stem so the scale lies horizontally on the soil
surface, so no probs with wind. Our cat keeps the rabbits away!!

So something like:

Being troden on is probably a bigger danger. Think I'd make mesh
guard of some sort to place over them, if only to make them a bit
more obvious in the grass.
