From this morning’s issue of the Mountain Weather Forecast for the Peak
District: ------------------------------------------------------ 70% chance that most summits will be clear of cloud, however during showers some cloud will temporarily form on windward slopes above 700m. ------------------------------------------------------ The highest point in the Peak District is 636m so there are no slopes above 700m. Whatever happened to quality control? -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |

Whatever happened to quality control? Perhaps they don't distinguish between the Peak District and the Pennines and use the same forecast for both. If so, that's pretty poor. -- John Hall "Hegel was right when he said that we learn from history that man can never learn anything from history." George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) |

The forecast is explicitly labelled Peak District - Mountain Weather Forecast I suspect that it was a cut-and-paste job from the Yorkshire Dales Mountain Weather Forecast which contained the same prediction. I haven't checked, but I suspect that the area covered by the Yorkshire Dales forecast does have some bits above 700m. If they can't get the simple things right it does make you wonder about the reliability of the more difficult stuff i.e. the forecast information :-( -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |
