Now you are talking Norman.
What a Winter, I've never seen so much snow.
We had huge drifts, snow lying through all Jan and Feb well into March, even
recorded snow lying in April & May that year.
Easily goes down as the snowiest and one of the coldest Winters I've lived
through, at least here!

How many red warnings do you think today's Met Office would have issued
during that winter?

More than a few :-) I was living in Watford at the time. The winter
seemed to go on forever. I recall that there was widespread snow right
into the middle of March - or is my memory playing tricks?!

No your memory is not playing tricks Norman:)
Now I'm semi retired I'm going to dig out all my old 1978-79 diaries and log
that winter onto my website.
It was one to remember!

And how many days would the schools have been closed using today's
criteria? (It might be easier to determine the number of days when they
would have been open.)
