That's funny Antarctica was at records highs for several years not long ago and you blamed that on melting ice , is the ice still melting ?

The "on-this-day" figure may be 120 km^2 just in " surplus" over record
minimum for the global sea-ice extent for 05 Feb days of the year.
I may be wrong on that as I'm relying on my record of Feb 2017 figures,
not having access at will, sitting here, to NSIDC Charctic.
It seems Charctic does not work on IE or Firefox on win7 or win10.
I can only view it on someone-else's machine with Google Chrome browser.
Unless anyone knows of an downloadable executable file version of Chrome
(for win7) , as I've never opened an application while online, which
seems to be the only way with chrome, unlike IE and Firefox.

Why not simply download & install chrome for Win 7

or am I missing something?

========

According to the Twitter feed of antarcticreport.com, "Average sea ice extent around Antarctica for January 2018 was 2nd lowest on record, since satellite tracking began in 1981 (the lowest occurred in 2017). In particular, the Ross Sea and western Amundsen Sea areas were well below average."

From Charctic, I make the all-time record global minimum of sea-ice 01
Feb 2017 at 16.229 million sq km
For 06 Feb 2018, on this day a total of 16.36,2017 was 16.284
For 07 Feb 2018 , on this day of the year 16.292, last year record
minimum on that day was 16.293 so new record minimum for 07 Feb of any
year in the satellite era

For 08 to 12 Feb,
I make the new (NSIDC algorithm) global record sea-ice extent mimimum
was on 11 Feb at

16,062 million sq km

, down by 71,000 on the figure for 11 feb 2017.
12 Feb 2018 16,070 , down by 44,000 sq km on 2017 on-that-day
