Long and hard 15 mile group walk today on Dartmoor. Only just got back in time
before dusk. Very heavy going as there is sticky, gooey, peaty, boggy stuff everywhere it seems. Took in a few high Tors and a brilliant trek along the Dart valley scrambling over mossy/watery rocks. River was high and the kayakers were having great fun. Plenty of new streams tumbling down the valley sides too, streams where normally small paths are. Looking up the steep valley sides all you could see was moss and more moss covering everything. Weather was variable, a good force 5 high up with occasional drizzle but also some sun in the afternoon. Down in the Dart gorge it was humid and sticky and very mild at around 9 or 10C and 8C higher up. Feel nicely tired now but also refreshed with very few aches, so must still be a bit fit! At least for my age anyway :-) Will -- |
