The length of the current wet spell is now causing some issues with the water table, with parts of some roads being flooded for days on end, such as the A30 at Crows an Wra on my way to Sennen yesterday.
Sea conditions very poor yet again, the fairly small tides not stopping the sea running up Vallendreath. https://magicseaweed.com/Live-Sennen-Webcam/65/ . You'd think it was a big Spring. Still, looks like much calmer conditions ahead for Cornwall, something the Newlyn fishing fleet must be desperate for. No strong gusts at my station (Max 35mph), I am sheltered from the SW. Just scraped F8 on the cliff tops, 56mph gust at Lands End. Clearance nearly here! Graham Penzance |

With the ground sea & the air full of salt spray, very atmospheric fairly monochrome lighting. Certainly not the sharp conditions (and the forecast excellent visibility) which typically following a cold front. http://www.turnstone-cottage.co.uk/PN.html Just had a hail shower. Graham Penzance |

Graham, as I mentioned in another thread, on our drive to Limoges on Saturday in heavy rain, after 30mm in 8 hours, following 500mm since Boxing Day and 730mm since 1 December, there were no floods, barely a puddle, no water running across the roads, or down hills.
The roads were amazing, but they are maintained, gullies and ditches are cleared, unlike the UK. After barely 5mm in the East Riding, you knew that there would be water collecting in the usual spots. If it wasn't for the French drivers, I would have felt completely secure. Incidentally, 70km to Limoges and on the whole journey as far as the motorway junction, not one vehicle in front of, or behind us. |

How many more times do I have to say this. MetO site forecasts DO NOT take into account salt spray. Yes it's not good but that's the way it is. A new system is about to go in "soon", perhaps if you spoke to them with suggestions instead of just moaning on here, things might improve. The MetO has no UseNet feed nowadays so your comments will not be seen. |

He's having another sly dig at the MetO Alan as he has often done (just look back at his posts). I know where he is coming from, forecasts for the Cornwall peninsula are far from perfect, indeed bad sometimes, but I explained the salt spray situation to him before and I also mentioned that to keep pointing it out on here will get nowhere. Far better to contact the MetO and offer suggestions. |

In my experience, any such approach to the Met Office generates a patronising response along the lines of "we know better - we are a world class service providing the highest quality of service to our customers". Usually, the point that has been raised is not addressed and nothing changes. I used to raise a number of issues with the Met Office but I've largely given up. They obviously don't want to know, at least the people who field the complaints/suggestions don't. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Graham Penzance (OT) but when I looked at my pic it reminded me of the photo of S & G on the back cover of 'Bridge over Troubled Water' (vinyl version). Not the troubled waters, but the stance of the walker. Probably just me. More heavy rain/hail showers overnight. Could end up being a record winter for hail. Graham Penzance |
