Woke up to a slight dusting of snow on the lawn this morning. Barely
measurable, but I've put it in as 1cm. What was coming down was wet slushy stuff which didn't really have the heart to settle. Temperature struggled up to +1.7 at lunch time, and has now just dropped to below freezing. The roads and footpaths are like skating rinks out there. However, it was a completely different story 15 miles away to the west. The M1 and A14 have been the main topic on all the news and traffic bulletins all day. Numerous minor bumps brought the M1 to a crawl during the morning, and several accidents and a jack-knifed lorry closed the A14 for about 7 hours. In the west of the county it was deemed too dangerous for the dustmen to empty the bins, and they were recalled to the depot. More than 500 properties in the county were without electricity for most of the day. The River Nene in the Northampton area is currently on a flood warning. jim, Northampton |
