Topped 1600hr sun for the year yesterday, first time since 2006. Not bad for the NE Pennines!
Rainfall low at 710mm (81%)with just 22mm this month, lowest for December on my 46 year record - that could change on Friday going by the warnings! Ken Copley Teesdale |

Definitely not bad and probably higher than many places much further south. Down 'ere near the south Devon coast, yesterday's unbroken sunshine from dawn 'til dusk has pushed the annual total to 1745 hours, which is still rather below my estimated LTA. To this date last year there had been 1876 hours of sunshine. December's sunshine total now at 81 hours, which is around the average for the last 12 years. So, given today's sunny start, this month should end up a little above normal. Annual rainfall total at 720 mm, so pretty much average. One thing of note though, is the mean temperature for this year, it is currently at 12.0C making it a 'warm' year. Surprising given the rather uninspiring summer and early autumn. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

When there was sunshine recorded at Penzance it recorded around 150-200 hours a year more than Camborne. Camborne is a cloudy spot (as I see you're aware from previous posts) catching the cloud that often runs down the spine of Cornwall. Even so, I doubt if Penzance would have exceeded 1600 hours this year. So far at my site:- Mean Temp 12.1C (+0.4) Rainfall 1138.1mm (94%) Graham Penzance |
