Good job it didn't snow like this Sunday ![]() Current temp 0.3c Sorry should have said Weston Coyney. Really snowing hard now, didn't expect this...........where is the warning??? They seem to have been caught napping. There's a yellow warning in force for ice, which says: "Between 16:00 Wed 13th and 11:00 Thu 14th Ice will again form on some surfaces from late Wednesday afternoon, which will continue through the night and well into Thursday morning. In addition, wintry showers will spread from the west with some accumulations of snow, though mostly restricted to high ground. There will probably be icy stretches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths with some slippery surfaces likely. There is also a small chance of travel disruption across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. "Chief Forecaster's assessment Most of the snow accumulations will occur above 200 m where 2-5 cm is likely in places, mainly over higher parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland where greater amounts are likely at higher elevations. However, 1-2 cm is possible at low levels very locally where heavier showers occur." -- John Hall "George the Third Ought never to have occurred. One can only wonder At so grotesque a blunder." I thought it was the ice caused by the forecasted wintry showers that was going to be the main problem tonight, not all this snow. 4cm in less than 2 hours here, caused chaos on the roads, nowhere near this bad on Sunday! Another snow shower just gone through with some strong gusts. Current temp 0.3c Graham (Weston Coyney) |

The following roads are closed due to snow: - A53 Axe Edge - A54/A537 Cat and Fiddle - A57 Snake Pass - A6024 Holme Moss I don't really see how the Severe Weather Warning Service could have missed this one. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Gust of 65mph in St Ives within the last hour (no warning), yet we've frequently hard warnings with gusts around half of that. The WNW-NW wind is funnelling around the tip of the peninsula, a direction where the wind often well exceeds forecast values. In fact it's been a pretty stormy & wet few days here, the cold hasn't really been much of a feature - more bleak. Trip in a small boat anyone? https://magicseaweed.com/Live-Sennen-Webcam/65/ Currently just after low tide, but you wouldn't think so. Graham Penzance |

Update from Derbyshire CC at 10:50 a.m. -------------------------------------------------------------- Heavy snow fell through the night with areas around Buxton, Chapel and Glossop worst hit, along with other exposed routes across the county. Our gritting teams were out non-stop overnight treating and re-treating primary gritting routes and clearing snow, along with farmers and other contractors helping to clear routes with four-by-four volunteers providing support. The following roads are now open: A53 Axe Edge A54/A537 Cat and Fiddle The following roads are currently closed or impassable: A57 Snake Pass A6024 Holme Moss The A515 at Sterndale Moor is now passable with care after a jack-knifed lorry was cleared. Our gritters and snow ploughs are still out trying to keep the main routes clear. --------------------------------------------------------------- There's a steady thaw in Tideswell but our road is still a mess of slush. Current temp +2.2° -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Graham Slight to moderate snow in Tideswell since about 1930z. After losing much of the old snow cover during today's rain we've now got 3 cm of fresh snow. Current temp +0.4° and slowly falling. There's potential for quite a bit more overnight. All depends on the exact track of the shower streams coming in from Liverpool Bay. The WNW wind is often bad news here. There's quite a few sferics over the sea to the west of Irelend so plenty of beefy showers out there. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Heavy snow stopped around 9.15 with 4cms, lucky we didn't get this stuff all day Sunday Norman, we would have been buried ![]() Looks like there are more showers on the way but whether they will fall as snow or a wintry mix remains to be seen. Temp did get down to 0.0c but now back up to 0.3c Graham (Weston Coyney) |
