An intense but quite brief thunderstorm today started around 12:15, this
being the first thunderstorm of the month and ending an un-thundery spell that started on the 19th July. Rare large (0.5 mm) hail accompanied the thunder and lightning and then seemed to the turn to big snowflakes and gave a light covering. It wasn't actually snow (temperature was 17C at the time) but partially melted 'fluffy' hail. Quite bizarre though and a shame I didn't manage to get a photo. I am awaiting reports in the local press of 'summer snow'. Other than that and the rather beautiful sky-scape of towering, dazzling cumulonimbus clouds against the deepest of blue skies, it has been a pleasant sort of day. Even managed a couple of hours in the hammock this afternoon. Minimum = 13.2C Maximum = 20.7C Rain = 7.9 mm Sunshine = 8.6 hours (19:00). -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Which is rare around here as in all the years I've been sending data to to COL, I've only ever 'ticked' that box (0.5 cm) three or four times. -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalleyweather.me.uk |

Oh okay, fair enough. I thought the units used were mm rather than cm. But still a typo like you said :-)

Weird feeling dripping with sweat one minute then briefly looking at a scene full of ice!
