Todays Sevenstones data is a good demonstration of the danger of equating wave size with wind strength.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=62107 The largest swell (significant wave height) of 12.5' coinciding with the lightest wind 4.1kt. In practice the swell often builds during lulls in the wind, when it's no longer blown out. Earlier a windspeed of 20kt was accompanied by a significant wave height of around 5'. Graham Penzance |
