Default Why don't people think about what they are saying!

The following is from the BBC Scotland Weather Twitter account

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've reached 12C in #Kinloss! Exceptionally mild for the time of year. That's
double the average for mid-January in Northeast Scotland!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I despair :-(

Sheesh that is bloody hot. If the average is 279K then double would be 558K or

If a standup comedian came up with that I can imagine a drunken late-night audience responding with "Rubbish" or "My Mum told me that one when I was six" or even "You are thermodynamically illiterate, my good fellow". Just because it's Twitter it doesn't have to be screaming nonsense.

Now I see the real meaning of twitter... = a conglomeration, assembly or

Nevertheless, there's a great deal of very good weather stuff on there. The Met
Office makes fairly extensive use of it. It is fully controllable by the user
as to which feeds he/she sees, so the rubbish is completely avoidable. I was
very sceptical until I tried it. Then I realised its potential.

If you disable your pedant switch and act like a human instead of Mr
Spock, it is clear that they are referring to the Celsius scale so
double the average means the average is 6C. No it is not scientifically
correct but since the Kelvin scale is not used amongst the general
public, people will know what the statement is trying to say.

Communicating with the general public, especially through online media,
is not like speaking at a scientific conference or publishing a
scientific paper in a high quality journal.

Using the same line of thinking, I wonder what double -3C would be? :-)
