Default Repost: collection of dust samples after rain ....

As part of the Met Office relocation process, art-work has been
commissioned for the HQ building
in Exeter.
For more details see:-

http://www.metoffice.com/corporate/relocation/art.html

One of the artists has been asked to prepare work which is
described under (selective quotes from an e-mail I received from her)

" What I want to make is a large wall mounted cast of a Saharan wind
ripple with a glass box inset into it containing a miniature sand dune
made from the dust which has travelled over 3000 km from North West
Africa and been gathered in and around Bracknell and Exeter ..... I
now know that it is possible to collect a small amount of it and also
it is possible with the help of the forecasters to pinpoint exactly
where the dust has originated from. My plan is to gather as much dust
as possible over the next 6/8 months in and around Bracknell and
Exeter. "

What we want is YOUR help in collecting dust samples after any
particular event. For advice on such, see:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.w...tm#dustreports

It is obviously going to be difficult to *collect* (we usually wash it
off the cars) sufficient dust/sand, but only _samples_ are required -
not enough to make the entire moulding!
If you do collect same (on a car left out after an event - perhaps
swept carefully into an envelope), then let me know and I'll send you
my address for centrally collecting same:-
my email address is mg.rowleyATntlworld.com ... replace the 'AT' in
the usual way.

Please ensure you note the date and location of the fall - this will
be useful when sorting out which event to credit the deposit to.

Martin.
