Global Arctic+Antarctic Sea-Ice area reached a minimum record, as per
NSIDC algorithm , data on http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/ch...sea-ice-graph/ was 20 Oct at -3.378 x10^6 km^2 comparing daily Arctic and Antarctic totals to ,of the day of the year long-term average. other recent totals also outside +/-3 million range 15 Oct -3.195 16 Oct -3.225 17 Oct at -3.361 x10^6 km^2 18 Oct -3.332 background comparison, +/-3 million vertical axis was considered sufficient and recent datastream problems have confused the issue http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosph....withtrend.jpg http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosph...aly.global.png Don't panic, I've not so far managed to confirm data integrity, despite NSIDC quoting to 3 decimal places and suspicious lack of comment about this record minimum. A quote from a UK retired academic advisor for satellite polar monitoring and IPCC member "Yes, interesting and scary!" |
