I must say looking out at the dawn this morning, it's the most winteriest (that may not be in the dictionary) that I've seen it so far this winter here in Mid-Devon. Fog fills the valley, and everything has a coating of hoar frost on it, minimum temperature a remarkable -1.6°C, taking the total number of frosts here to 6!

Surprisingly little white frost here in North Yorkshire although Topcliffe had one of the coldest nights this winter @ -4.1C. Locally I was seeing air temp of -0.5C but the air was so dry that there was no visible white frost on the grass only on the car roof and similarly flat exposed surfaces. Exposed water was iced over. BTW did anyone else see the fine thin crescent moon last night (should also be pretty again tonight too & ISS passes at 1811 GMT) -- Regards, Martin Brown |

Min -2.1c. Also recorded (just) air frosts on the 3rd and 6th, neither were forecast, so it's been a remarkably cold period!!!! DM. Langtoft. ERofY. |

As a Met Office Observer many years ago, I remember putting in the remarks column of the obs(ervation) book, "Notable Earthshine on moon". The next night an old observer John Sutherland, who is sadly no longer with us, added a remark to his observation "Notable moonshine on Earth" which put me in my place! Bruce. |
