Outside thermometer reading 14.0șC. Even allowing for residual
warming through the wall of the house, this is ridiculously mild
for after 6 pm in January here.

Yes but not surprising when you consider the origin of the airmass.
If only this had been July!!! Big bangers no doubt :-)
