The wind has been increasing all day and now F5-6 along the south coast.
Lands End shows the steady increase in wind. http://www.landsendweather.info/met/mainframe.htm Not much in the way in rain yet, just the occasional brief burst in the last couple of hours, but it is being blown rather horizontally. Also some breaks in the cloud now. Bit of a contrast to yesterday. Obviously very lumpy sea conditions on the south coast, but the real swell still very small, as you can see where the winds offshore, in fact slmost flat out of the SE wind down in NW facing Sennen http://www.sennen-cove.com/harbourcam.htm. Quite a big swell forecast to arrive in the early hours. Forecast swell at Sennen:- 9pm 1', breaking wave height 0.6' 3am 4-6' & 12' respectively. http://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ The breaking wave is higher than the open sea swell due largely to the offshore wind preventing breaking at the normal depth, and some focusing at the Gwenver end of the beach. As the wind turns onshore (W-NW)in 2 or 3 days time, the breaking wave is, if anything, rather below swell height. Graham Penzance |
