My total for today 18 to 1800 BST is 38.1 mm.
Quite a remarkable summer depression, wet but not much wind. Funnily enough my previous record for July also occurred on 24th. 24th July 2005 34.8 mm. 24th July 2015 38.1 mm. Len Wembury, SW Devon, 83 m asl |

Today (46.3mm) was second to July 5th 2008 when I collected 50.7mm. Three other July's were close with rainfall days above 40mm. Rainfall = 33.2 mm, then again that is the highest 24-hour rainfall since the 21st November 2012 and the highest July total since 2012. My highest 24-hour July total was on the 7th July 2012 with 50.8 mm and caused widespread flooding because it fell in a short period onto already saturated ground. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

A good 40 mm will have to fall overnight and I don't think that's likely despite Freddie's warning about the bent=back occlusion. My July record (32 years) is 60.1 mm on 20 July 2007 (thunderstorms).
