Would we have had any clue whatsoever how memorably cold that winter was
going to be, based on this? Especially looking at the same date the
following year.

Just goes to show as Chuck said, 'you never can tell'.

Indeed.
Two very ordinary looking November charts, one of which was
followed by a severe winter, one of which wasn't.
We all know that a cold spell can suddenly appear with 7-10 days
notice during a seemingly unrelenting zonal period.

I certainly don't think it will in the next 7-10 days, however. We are in for a very wet and windy Atlantic spell. The coldies won't like that and will always feel anything can happen (and there's a 20% chance that my current forecast won't achieve outcome, based on past success), but that's the current situation.

Not just the "coldies", either, though I would class myself as one of those..

All of those with memories of what was going on 9-10 months ago would, I'm sure, prefer to see *anything* other than what the charts are showing for the next week. From non-descript drizzly warm sectors to screaming Siberian easterlies, anything would be better!
