The storm of 23 Dec 2013 seems to have given a spectacular orographic enhancement to the rainfall on a SSW severe gale.
24 hr totals: Plymouth Mt Batten (50 m asl) total 23 mm Postbridge on Dartmoor (369m asl) total 156 mm That is an enhancement of 133 mm for a rise of 319 m over a distance of 30 km. River levels are very high in consequence. The Dart for example. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk...ls/120723.aspx Len Wembury, SW Devon |
