Cloudy yesterday, with some light showers during the afternoon. Cloudy
during the evening and overnight, with further precipitation. Low cloud
broke before dawn, but there is still plenty of cirrus above. Marked
lee wave activity over the past 24 hours - especially since about 0300z,
with the mean speed F6 at times. Calmer now, though, although
lenticular SC and AC suggest the activity is still continuing.
Excellent visibility again today.

07/0900z - 08/0900z:
Max: 8.7 (1214z)
Min: 6.3 (0953z) [Night min 7.2 (2126z)]
Rain: 0.4 mm

A lot of lee wave activity today, and with some textbook examples of
lenticular cloud. Surface wind speed has been variable throughout the
day - mainly F4-5, but with some quite long spells (an hour or so) at
F6. The speed trace hasn't been gusty (currently mean speed 21 knots
gusting to 26 knots), and even at its strongest the gusts were only 7
knots in excess of the mean. This "smooth" trace is typical of lee
waves. Well broken low cloud today meant quite a bit of sunshine was
experienced, with a top temperature of 10.2 (1210z). Excellent
visibility too.
