Default 2013 still drier than average…

Hi

2013 is continuing to look like a drier than average year, with six of the nine months of 2013 in the England Wales below the long term average. This is probably no bad thing after last year [2012], which was the wettest for 140 years in the series that stretches back to 1766.

Well, in some places maybe, but I'm never keen on this sort of averaging out as it hides such wide variations.

In west Cornwall it was the 4th wettest this century. (Although, to be fair, we have had 4 exceptionally wet years in the last 12.)

2002 - 1544mm
2000 - 1513mm
2009 - 1456mm
2012 - 1445mm
2013 (so far) a rather more normal 772mm

The local press made use of statements like the one you've mades, even though it wasn't remotely applicable.
