Default [WR] Heavy rain - Tideswell

Heavy rain with occasional thunder/lightning since 1930z. The Davis VP give a
total for the 2 hours of 30 mm so the actual total in the 5" gauge is likely to
be something around 35 mm or a little higher. The radar suggests there's a lot
more to come. Max instantaneous rate according to the Davis VP is 98 mm/hr.
It's not very nice out there.

Must admit I had been expecting something a bit similar to that from
what was being said on News 24 and your radar doesn't look much
different to how mine did as it past. I guess your topography plays a
much bigger part though than my one 400 foot hill!

5.7mm here Dave. NAE told me to expect 25-30mm from this system. Can you explain why our area seem to miss out?

Not really! We often seem to get this horseshoe effect as systems pass
over London, with a much reduced rainfall amount immediately to the
East. Whether a 100 square mile concrete heat island can do that I
wouldn't know.

The probability of a significant weather event occurring is inversely
proportional to how much you want it to happen. :-)

I have to agree, having just got caught in a torrential shower that I really DIDN'T want to happen.
