This one is for you Larry.

We have to be in a state of readiness for a bit of warmth.

Its pathetic Len and has every thing to do with the unholy alliance of over exuberant H&S rubbish and AGW.

My god when I see this sort of drivel then a H&S warning is appropriate as my blood moves to boiling point. Where do people, if they have the time and money, want to be if they had a choice? SOMEWHERE BLOODY FAR HOTTER THEN THE UK.

So why give out such banal tripe? P)lease UKMO staff who frequent here please explain why this nonsense ever see's the light of (dangerous ) day.

Anyhow here is the text straight from the heat laboured horses mouth.

"Advice: Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.

If you want more information about hot weather and your health please visit www.nhs.uk. If you are concerned about your health or somebody you care for, please contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647, www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk or your local pharmacist."

By the way : don't forget this is the same caring NHS whom you can't trust sending your mother/granny to as they will be EXTERMINATED

Whilst on the term doctor or 'Spin doctor', This became known to us in the late eighties early nineties and the spin has spun totally out of control ever since

Do UKMO have no shame whatsoever? FFS

Haha no - it's a service provided for the NHS, and is specified by
them. Have you heard of the phrase "don't shoot the messenger"?

I think Len's fishing caught the curmudgeon that he intended to catch. What a foul little far right-wing rant that was. The NHS commissions the service for very good reason: more people die unnecessary deaths in heatwaves. In 2003, in France, there were 14,802 heatwave related deaths and it a fact that heatwaves kill, if very vulnerable people are not warned to take precautions. These warnings undoubtedly help.

Indeed.

However, the paragraph at the bottom says it is in conjunction
with NHS Wales as well, yet Wales is not included. And the
temperatures explicitly quoted in the first paragraph are all in
Ireland or Scotland, which are not included either.

Own goal, foot-in-mouth, or shoot-own foot?

Darwin.

It's hot, it's sunny, common sense says keep your fluids up, cover
up, don't do hard physical work around midday, take to the
shade/indoors. Hot countries have variations of the "siesta" for good
reason.

For the good of the species these deaths are necessary, discuss.

It is strange how the British seem to feel the need to get outside when
the sun is shining, and remain outside for as long as possible until
the sun vanishes.

Do other nationalities suffer from this mental conditioning?

I presume that it is a high latitude effect, but how do (say)
Norwegians behave when they get a couple of warm, sunny days? Do they
have lengthy headline news stories on tv showing people sitting on
grass/sand, eating ice cream, splashing in fountains, etc, etc?

Do they rush to their loungers (why are they sun loungers in the UK,
are they not designed to be used in the shade?). Their day length is
even longer than ours, so they have even more opportunity to get the
tan that the British seem to regard as a sexual necessity.
