Remarkable temperature drop overnight from + 2.5 to -2.0 in cloudy
conditions. That will be due to advection of cold air off the comtinent rather than the usual diurnal change. -- Freddie Bayston Hill Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://twitter.com/#!/BaystonHillWx*for hourly reports* |

From the radar the snow band seems to have stalled about 10 miles to the east of us over Essex. Still continuous light to moderate snow here with a little blowing in the SE breeze. -1.4 deg. About 2cm of powdery snow so far. I cannot remember the last time we had snow in London off a classic easterly situation.

Rain had steadily been turning to snow since 1700. Now (1845) temp 1 deg and wet snow just starting to settle. The radar shows the precipitation band to be slow moving so I would not be surprised to get a few cm of lying snow by midnight. If so it will cause total chaos on the roads.

Top of Hampstead now white with at least 1 cm of heavy lying snow. Roads getting very slippery. Very noticeable effect of altitude with hardly any accumulation in Swiss Cottage only 50m lower.
