Blue skies now (1235) approaching rapidly from west. Interesting to see the extent to which maximum gust speeds have varied so much in Central Scotland. I know Blackford Hill, Edinburgh, (102mph) very well and was walking there in December-it is very exposed indeed. A few weeks ago there was a story in The Orcadian about a 130mph gust-turns out that this reading was from an anemometer atop the turbine unit on one of the big units in Orkney. The latest edition contained a letter explaining why such readings are not the same as experienced by us lesser mortals at ground level. -- George in Epping www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk CWOP at http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/site/C4752 |

Showed up great on the radar as an intense line squall and all of the instrumentation graphs went into vertical mode! Dave, S.Essex |
