Default 'Once in a lifetime' winter

How can the media report that the current synoptic set-up is a 'once
in a lifetime' event when there's people on this newsgroup and
elsewhere that can remember the winters on 1947 and 1963, not to
mention 1987... it's preposterous!

I thought the same when it was mentioned that the Forth Road bridge had been
closed to all traffic for the first time in living memory.... strictly true
but it was only opened in 1964!

It's going to have to be something very special to come even close to 1979,
that was a once in a lifetime winter for me.
1979 was so cold and I've never seen so much snow
Snow lying days from November to May including all 59 days in January &
February, and it large quantities, awesome!!

I am in the bracket that can remember the winter of
1947.................just, I was a very wee girl at the time and
living in lanarkshire on a farm and it was very very cold and very
very snowy, so it will have to be a very exceptional winter this
year

I do hate the media hyperbole!

Surely it's good to know that nothing like this is to happen for the
next seventy years or so though.
