Ah nuts.

I had planned on applying for a forecaster position after completing
my physics degree, but was told in April that there wouldn't be any
positions this year/next year due to cuts. I started a PhD in October,
so it's too late for me now!

I have to say that I'm happy to be at the other end of the career path, though
it does mean that the 'grim reaper' is looming over the horizon :-( I doubt
very much that today's recruits will have as much fun and job satisfaction in
the profession as those of my generation have had. The starting salary doesn't
sound too bad, though. My starting salary in the Met Office was ?374 p.a. No
doubt there's some on here who started on less than that :-)

Well I failed an interview in 1989 at Bracknell. Since then I have
gained a degree in chemistry "and life". Shall I go for it?

I can commute to Exeter!
