Default Exceptionally High tide & Warm Night

Force 5 onshore wind on the highest astronical tide of the year
yesterday. This gave the highest actual tide since 2004 in Penzance.
Fortunately, although quite rough with the wind, no real swell, so not
a particular problem. However, around the harbour the sea was right up
to the doorways, lapping into the car park etc.

If anyone would like a pic I'll email a couple. The tide was higher
than this.http://www.cornwalls.co.uk/photos/img1719.htm (the last
really high tide in 2006)

Very windy night here - a Force 5 in Penzance, force 6-7 on exposed
spots. Mean speed around 30mph at Land's End. Also a swell coming in
now http://magicseaweed.com/UK-Ireland-MSW-Surf-Charts/1/ so tonight's
high tide will also be interesting.

Oh - Min temp 16.5C last night, smashing by 1 degree the previous
October 'warm night' record (since 1991)

Temperature has fallen back just marginally this morning, fell to 16.2
at some point. Similar pattern at Camborne
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...t_weather.html

It is now very windy. Strongest winds of the Autumn by quite a margin.
Now gusting 50mph in exposed spots, e.g. http://www.landsendweather.info/
where it's now touching gale force, the strongest wind here since 31st
March. It's come at the wrong time, if the ESE wind into Mount's Bay
it doesn't go down before this evenings high tide, there is likely to
be some flooding, as there is now a large swell. http://www.sennen-cove.com/today2.htm.
Surprised there are no flood warnings in force. The houses at the
bottom of the Abbey Slip needed their sandbags on the last 2 tides.

I got some good high-tide time-lapse stuff, which I'll post to Youtube
when I get settled back in.

Hope you enjoyed your stay in St Ives. Let me know when the stuff's on
Youtube.

I don't know what time you left, but the wind rose to around gale
force for a while today, 1st gale since March. Brought down some power
lines. No power in Mousehole from 10:30 - 15:30. I've just got back
from cheering up the visitors. The prom looks set to be closed for 2
or 3 hours around hugh tide this evening.

Strongest gust on the Island at St. Ives was 54knots this afternoon.
The MetO forecast this moring showed a whole sun, & mention a
'noticeable wind' I'm sure the people repairing the power cables
noticed it, and it would have been difficult standing on the Island
with a wind gusting to that speed. It's also very interesting seeing
the temperature trace for the last 24 hours. Minimum temperature 16.2
at around 13:00!

All the best

Will do.

8.15am train from St Ives - got back 1.30pm.

, but the wind rose to around gale

I was windy when I left, but the N coast would have been somewhat
sheltered anyway.

Strongest gust on the Island at St. Ives was 54knots this afternoon.

Perhaps just as well I missed that.

The wind meant I didn't notice the temperature as much as I would here,
though.

Yes - just now ! Are the rapid changes in lighting caused by a repeated
alternation between clouds and sunshine ? The people don't half move fast
