Good morning all,
I was just checking the latest (061800z) GFS run and noticed that the forecast for excessive rainfall in the Ionian sea (between SE Italy and western Greece) on Monday has been very persistent indeed. Sea surface temperatures are currently around +30C there, and a minor middle troposphere trough and a high če plume/pool at 850 hPa are forecast for the specific day. Luckily, there is a high chance that most of the rain will fall over the sea. I was wondering if there might be any similarities between the conditions forecast for Monday and tropical storms.
