Default [WR] Over a foot of snow in Wishaw - three weeks to get there

A period of snow this morning gave a further 4-5cm, taking the depth up to
32cm. First time I've recorded a foot of snow here since the February 2001
blizzard. We've now had a complete cover of snow here for 3 full weeks and
the snow has fallen on 18 of the 21 days.
Elsewhere in the county, higher parts of Larkhall have around 40cm of snow
and further out in the countryside - the village of Douglas, in the South
East of Lanarkshire and much higher up has over 2 feet of snow lying now
(60cm+). Motherwell, lower down and further west that Wishaw, has a mere
20cm.
It looked to me as though the Borders were hit hard with snow this morning
from the radar and all roads in the region are reported as being closed on
the news. I'd doubt that to be true, but I'm sure many of them are.

Statistically the mean temperature in Wishaw for the entire winter currently
stands at -1.3บC (the entire winter of 62/63 was around 0.0บC here)
For the last 28 days -2.5บC
For the last 21 days (since the snow arrived) -3.5บC
For the last 2 weeks -4.0บC.
The average minimum for January is currently -10.4บC here, which must be
around the lowest in the entire country.
The beeb forecast minimum's in Scotland as low as -20บC in the next few
days, I don't think they'll be far off the mark.
Enter the realm of frozen pipes, pointless gritting and freezing diesel.

I'm sure you'll undercut me soon Brian, you're more likely for a -20บC than
here.
It's not out of the question for here either mind you, in the middle of
Scotlands biggest glen (the central lowlands) - with deep snow cover.
I'd also fancy the UK record is up for the taking in the usual spots, aka
Braemar, Altnaharra, before or during the weekend.
Alex.

-8บC here also, we're in tandem tonight.
No such woes with BMW's mind you lol.
I see it's -13บC in Gleneagles just now, not sure about the station set up
there, but it usually seems reliable.
Alex.

The temperature has risen at Gleneagles, they are up to -6บC, cloud cover or
wind being the culprit (or saviour depending on viewpoint)
Still falling here in Wishaw, -10.3บC at 6.20pm. Without cloud cover or
wind, we could be heading down to the UK winter record so far. Prestwick and
Edinburgh aren't far behind.

I saw on Ceefax that it was -6C in Leeds at 16:00, which if correct is
fairly remarkable.
