Just looking at http://imkpc3.physik.uni-karlsruhe.d...ics/brack4.gif and
noticed hurricane Fabian has appeared on the chart for Sunday. Any thoughts on the trajectory of this depression? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.512 / Virus Database: 309 - Release Date: 19/08/2003 |

Hi Mag.
Without any obvious blocking high it might turn out to be one to watch for our shores. Of course it wouldn't be a hurricane as such by the time it reached UK waters - but it could still pack a punch/splash if it traversed the Atlantic in a hurry. Time will tell. Alex. As Mag said in an earlier post, I wonder if the recent hot weather has
significantly raised the sea temperature. Would this slow down Fabians weakening? Just my thoughts Brendan |

@hercules.btinternet.com: As Mag said in an earlier post, I wonder if the recent hot weather has significantly raised the sea temperature. Would this slow down Fabians weakening? I would expect that the SSTs around our climes, although anomalously high, would never be high enough to sustain a hurricane - you really need SSTs above 27c for a tropical storm-strength system to be sustained. Also, bear in mind that the system has to cross a huge amount of sea to reach us. Most hurricanes have either dissipated over the colder sea or transformed into an extratropical cyclone before that reach us - have a look at Hurricane Lili from 1996 as an example: http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/...LILI/track.gif This went on to hit the UK and give gusts of 70mph as an extratropical system.
