Default [WR] Otter Valley, Devon - Warmest March Day

Recorded a max of 18.3°C this afternoon making it the warmest March day
since setting up this station in 2005.

A misty start to the day but that soon cleared to leave 10 hours of
unbroken, if rather hazy sunshine. Today's high temperature was probably
helped by the fact that it didn't get that cold last night with a minimum of
only 6.9°C compared to previous nights where the temperature has dropped as
low as 2°C.

Total sunshine for the month will probably pass the 100 hours' mark tomorrow
and heading towards beating last year's quite sunny March which had 132
hours of sunshine and this March is likely to end up much warmer.

Garden and fields drying out nicely now. Saw a bluebell in flower today, now
that is exceptionally early but it was in a very sheltered, south facing
spot. Most bluebell leaves are up but no flower stem yet, will probably be
another 3 weeks or so before we see them in flower.

(18:40), 9.8°C, RH 74%, DP 5.3°C, 1028 hPa (F), Wind calm. No rainfall since
the 10th.

Very different temperature range here today compared with yesterday.
The breeze & cloud overnight meant the minimum was 8.5C (1.3C the
previous night). Then we were plagued by low cloud all morning, and
although there was unbroken sunshine from noon, the moderate onshore
ESE wind helped keep the maximum down to 12.6C. It has been very, very
hazy, visibility barely 4 miles. (Cape Cornwall only just visible from
Sennen at 16:00)

There's been 80-90 hours of sunshine so far this month in the far SW.
(84 hours at Camborne)

What a wonderful country of contrasts we have. Still waiting to see the first
daffodil here. The snowdrops are still in full bloom.
