any hoar frost in Surrey valleys this morning ?
Sorry this is a rather lazy question.
I planned to test out my brand new DSLR in the Wey Valley at sunrise this morning but overslept. Did any hardy souls out there see much hoar frost worthy of early trip tomorrow ? My back garden station (Burpham, Surrey) indicated a min of -5.4c last night so no lack of cold air. Many thanks Terry |

Air is too dry for heavy hoar deposits, probably be the same on Sunday morning. Have fun setting that alarm for 0500z ;)) Ian (Raunds) |

I tested out my old Ford Transit on some cooking oil about 06:30 morning in a nice crisp frost. It's still frosty now but the engine is warmed. I had a 50:50 mix of diesel and cooking oil in it and it started first time. I know it is going to be frosty each morning now until the end of this spell and again next week apart from some cool misty weather in- between. So I had better run the thing dry and fill with veggie oil tonight to try it out again tomorrow before it is too late to sort it on Monday. I have no idea what I am going to do if it wont start. Take the fuel lines off the injectors and pump it out probably. Sounds fun in a cold corner. I'd better get a fuel container and a gallon of the real thing. Bloody politicians! Why can't we have a violent overthrow now and again? (A very violent overthrow.) |

Not in a valley, but there was hoar frost on the grass in Cranleigh this morning. It wasn't very heavy, no doubt because the air was so dry. -- John Hall "Banking was conceived in iniquity and born in sin" attributed to Sir Josiah Stamp, a former director of the Bank of England |

Actually, I was surprised how iced up the car was this morning. I would give
it a go tomorrow Terry - think there may be a bit more hoar frost. Min -4.3c at Merrow. Frost still on the ground in shade (11Z) Phil |

No. It's between 4-5am. At this time of year (with clear skies) it's coldest here in Somerset at around 8am - the Sun isn't high enough to warm just after dawn, so cooling continues until it rises high enough to affect the air temperature. |

Go and take some pictures anyway - and if there's no hoar around, then adobe
(elements or cs) may be able to help. Looks like dawn will be picturesque whatever. Peter J "Ian" wrote in message ... Reverted subject to T's original. What was point of changing it Mike? Ian (Raunds) |

It's always bloody cold whatever season between 4-5am when I go out for a cig :-) Mike P |
