Default Farnbrough poss tornado event.

I posted this on Torro but thought others might be interested here too.
I'd like to post it to UKWW to the Farnborough thread running there with
some photos but it keeps resetting me to guest and won't let me see the
verification
code. grrrr.....

I arrived in Farnborough shortly after 12pm. No signs of damage in
general until we almost reached Medway drive at the junction with
Fernhill Rd.

The first very obvious sign of damage was a large tree close to
Medway drive with all the top branches broken off. The branches lay
in different directions roughly north, east and south. Two trees had
been uprooted but had already been sawn up. These lay in an easterly
direction.

I walked down Medway drive. A large cluster of trees at the junction
had had branches torn and scattered about the place. A house close
had had the chimney damaged. On the opposite side of the rd at number
4 was an elderly lady. I spoke to her. She had had no damage nor had
the houses on her side of the road as far as I could tell.

I went back on to Fernhill. opposite the large tree was a bus shelter
that had been completely uprooted (photo in my album will upload here
later). I noticed some tiles missing from the corner of a house on
Northcote rd. I spoke to some people who lived there. Lady at number
3 took me into her garden. She showed me the rest of the bus shelter
in garden at number 1. Her trampoline had taken off and cleared fence
into number 5. Lots of glass and general broken debris. I walked down
Northcote further. Houses on the one side had chimney damage. I
turned left into Whittle and there was more minor damage.

Next I walked back across into Medway and into Rother. There was a
lot of activity. One house on the right had part of its roof covered
with a tarp. Further down was a block of garages with the roof
missing. I spoke to an eyewitness:

He had been woken by rain at about 6:30am. Hes not sure of the time
(he started to say ten to 7 but then corrected himself and said
others said it was 7:10) He was looking out of the window. Wind was
coming from the east. He saw two lots of wind coming together. Rain
came in opposite direction. Roof lifted off in one piece. It rotated
clockwise. It was thrown into the house. It split into two pieces,
one went east and one went west. He tried to close window (debris was
coming) but couldnt. He was worried he was going to get sucked out of
the window.

After I spoke to him he showed me the garden. They were pulling the
back wall of the garages down and the roof tiles of the house above
were lose so I didnt hang around.

I then went into Rye close. The firebrigade were there onlifts
inspecting the chimneys. A row of 6 houses had chimney damage. A lady
I spoke to said she was getting up for work. The rain was really
really heavy. Her net curtain was sucked out then she saw a fence
panel lifted and it span. Like the wizard of oz.

Next I went to Ribble place. A chimney was down. At the end of the
row of houses a brick wall had been blown in, 90 degrees to the
damage path. Also a caravan had been upturned but it was the right
way up when I saw it. And that was the end of the damage I saw in the
northerly direction. The M3 is just beyond there.

A district councillor told me of damage in the opposite area
(Kingsley Rd) so I set off down there. I walked down Mayfield until I
got to a foot path along cove brook. I walked down. There was a lot
of tree debris in general down there. The path backs onto Kingsley. I
saw a tree across a van. It lay parallel to the brook. All though
there was a lot of scattered debris much seemed to lie parallel to
the brook. The damage ended very suddenly at a little path that leads
back up to Northcote Rd. I went further onto Kingsley but saw no
damage on the estate.
