I was born in 1977 so obviously I don't remember the summer of '76, but with
this summer being compared with it what was the following autumn & winter like? Is there a trend between hot/cold summers and wet/dry autumns and cold/mild winters? Regards Mag |

From memory, December was on the cold side and fairly dry. I don't think that January or February were in any way notable. ![]() ================================================== ================== This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author. Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do. ================================================== ================== Autumn '76 was very wet. This year has not been like '76 - thank goodness, the drought that year was widespread and awful. I consider myself fortunate to have lived through '59 summer, '63 winter, '68 July, '75 and '76 summers, '79 winter, '81 winter, '87 autumn, '87 winter, '91 winter, '95 summer, '00 autumn and now '03 summer. Like you, Will, I've lived through all of these seasons and am glad I have done, particularly the winter of '63 which sparked off my interest in meteorology. The list goes to show that there is always something notable weather-wise not too far away. By the way, did you really mean the winter of '81? It was the winter of '82 that was cold and snowy although most of the action was in the December (1981). John Walker, Louth, Lincolnshire |
