..... (0915Z) as I type this, recent steady rain has increased in
intensity - into the 'moderate' category now, adding to the overnight total of 6.5 mm. The month's total is now 93 mm, representing, *very roughly*, 250% of the LTA 1971-2000 for this location. Looking at the Hurn record (since 1957), July is, on average, the driest month at that station using the figures from the Met Office web site. It's July average 1971-2000 is 37 mm; next wettest is May with 48 mm. Julys got drier between the 30-year 'standard' periods (61/90 vs. 71/00) if these data are to be believed, with the 1961-1990 average 40 mm. However, in recent years, Julys have turned wetter again, with the average for July for 2001 - 2006 = 58 mm.
