No idea what it says; nor why I should go along with it. Wierd or
what? Wouldn't the offending messages be included somewhere in the
collation?

Dear Mr. McNeil,

We are writing to you for a second time in behalf of Andrew Lane. He
has asked us to contact you to see if you will consider removing the
content about her/him, or at least changing the content so as not to
include his full name at:

http://uk.nntp2http.com/sci/weather/...b11284077.html

As you know, even one posting on the Internet can have a stunning
impact
on an individual's personal life and career. Ten years ago, off-
handed
or even intentional comments about someone might be temporarily
damaging. Today, even the smallest of postings about a person can
permanently and grievously hurt one's sense of self, one's livelihood,
and one's family.

It takes only a few minutes to cause real harm to another person on
the
Internet. Anyone can post just about any kind of comment about an
individual in nearly any place on the 'Net in less than five minutes.
And then the comment shows up in every Google search about the person
they are discussing.

By contrast, it can take weeks or months of effort to try to
"overcome"
the impact of that damaging posting by trying to sprinkle the Web with
different kinds of comments in the sometimes vain hope that search
engines will find and rank those results higher than the deleterious
one.

There is a simpler way. We are reaching out to you with a
straightforward and sincere request that you consider removing or at
least amending the posting so that the name of our client, Andrew
Lane,
is not shown. This would take you only two minutes, but it would be
such a great boon for our client. It will have a major impact on his
life.

Our intent here is really just to ask as nicely as possible. A small
act of kindness by you would go a long way for our client. We thank
you
in advance for your care and compassion.

If this communication should more properly be directed to another
individual, we'd be grateful if you would pass it along. You can reach
me for any reason at .

Yours sincerely,

Dave S.

It is a peculiarly British frame of mind to see the Teutonic as
humourless, unimaginative would-be masters of Europe -forgetting with
consumate ease, that the Anglo Saxon too had enough servile,
humourless, and unimaginative specimens to run a planet.

That last bit BTW, is my Google Mail sig.
Rather apt in view of developments. I wonder if it has any bearing on
the German link.

How do I change a Usenet post?

I would if I could.

Anyone (Not including Gianna or Lawrence Jenkins) have any ideas?

Replies on a postcard please, to :

It's odd that they don't ask me to use Google Mail or the possible
alternative in Hotmail. And why on earth would they expect me to
understand German? Or go there to do the deed?

Anyone can get Google to remove a Google posting from the Usenet
archives if it is posted through them I believe. Or at least they will
if there is enough reason. (Though they can get stroppy with the FBI,
so I dare say they would want to think about it.)

In fact the man seems to have beaten all around the bush in his
attempt to secure secrecy. It's very odd indeed.

Obviously he isn't looking to spread his wings in the direction of the
USA or Germany.
