Very much appreciated the synoptic loops they are using now. I have
only just started recording this programme, as i got a Freeview box with a useful 38hours hard drive thingy in it - no more video cassettes hanging around! How long have they been using this? I have noted my regional BBC ( South Today) also uses them. It contrasts markedly with the situation a year ago( was it?) when synoptic charts were out of fashion... R |

Unlike most BBC weather forecasts, I do not think those charts were ever
removed from Countryfile. I recently upgraded my basic Sky digibox to Sky HD (with Sky+ capabilities) Using the Manual-Record feature, it records BBC1 from 11:45 to 11:59 every Sunday. Very useful in case I miss it, or wish to view it again. |

There were several ******s giving short shrift and I dare say someone must have had a quiet word with the buggers. No doubt now that the North Koreans have a nuclear bomb, the writing is on the wall for a chimpload of monkeys in the BBC. No more sock puppeteers no doubt. (Well one can hope.) Can someone shoot Andrew Lane? Seeing that no one in the States wants to shoot George Bush. (I wonder why -or is it only Democrats that get hit?) |

The last bastion of intelligent weather forecasts Within the last month or so I'm sure I've heard a reasonably comprehensive - by public standards and comprehensible forecast in Gardeners' Question Time on a Sunday afternoon on BBC Radio Four. Indeed, I usually find R4 forecast superior to the televised version. Not practical when away from broadband, but I just wonder about R4 spoken content with MetO charts, etc, on screen. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainf...bc.co.uk/radio /aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/gqt at 29 minutes or so in. Rather less detail, than I thought I recalled, but still... Cannot find anything else apart from shipping on Listen Again, but perhaps I can't see for looking. -- Peter Thomas |

It's a twin-tuner machine with a 160Gb HDD (you can also get a 250Gb version). The biggest difference between that and other Freeview PVR's like the DigiHome or the Humax is that it is extendable using small programs called TAPs; you can find many downloadable extensions (such as improved on-screen guides, auto timers, and even an MP3 player) and a *very* active user group at http://www.toppy.org.uk -- Neil Sunderland Braunton, Devon Please observe the Reply-To address |

I think I'll add that to my Sky+ planner (using manual-record/series-link functions)to record it and listen at a time convenient to me. |

I would certainly say that I tune in,when possible, to radio Solent on Sunday afternoon when they have a link with the MetO and a very good week's forecast. at about 1330,1530 and/otherwise/possibly 1430 Plus late in the evening I think at about 2300 ish. It is certainly not one of their presenters giggling out in the Radio Solent garden doing a clothes check which I endure in the morning. |
