Default Davis AWS ISS recption problems

I need some help!

For the past 2 weeks now I have been plagued with ISS reception problems. All
summer and last winter reception was running at 99-100% but now it goes to zero
for long periods, causing missed data. Nothing has changed inside the house and
at first I thought it was the battery but I have used two new batteries to no
avail. It is in the ISS unit as moving the console right next to the unit makes
no difference. Nothing obvious re atmospheric conditions except a slight
correlation with humidity/dampness. After changing the ISS battery it is fine
for a while but then goes adrift. Could the battery contacts be getting damp,
I've cleaned them so no problem I hope with circuitry?

Any help/advice appreciated as I am losing data.

Will.

That's the worrying part. Could the unit be draining the batteries?
Do you have a test meter to check the battery condition?

Gareth, I've checked that and it isn't the problem. While it was raining this
afternoon I did leave the bottom hatch cover off and let the wind ventilate the
inside. It does seem OK now. I also found a small spider inside the unit which I
carefully extracted. Has anyone else had problems with spiders?

Will.

Only in my wind sensor - I can verify the strength of a spider's web!

Have you installed any other wireless equipment (router, DECT phone,
etc) recently?

Yes, but not in the same context - one made a nest in the telephone socket
of my belking surge protection board, and made the board trip out - took me
ages to work out it was the spider that was causing the short and hence the
trip

I am sure John Dann will assist, as he did for me.

Howard, yes we installed a wireless router for our computers but the Davis
worked fine for a couple of weeks after installation so I had rather ruled that
out?
