There appears to be an error in the Metcheck database used for airports. Try
selecting an airfield (which you are familiar with) from the drop-down list in Hobbies-Aviation - or from the normal page put in the ICAO code (e.g. Edinburgh is EGPH). A glance at the Lat/Long appears to show the correct position but is actually wrong - check the elevation:- "Location : EGPH Lat : 55.57N Lon : 3.21W ASL : 605m " This location is about 20 miles SSE of Edinburgh - the other side of the Pentland Hills. The elevation of EGPH is 135 feet. The Lat/Long for EGPH is 55 degrees 57 minutes N, 3 degrees 21 minutes W. Putting in the airport EH12 postcode instead gives:- "Location : EH12 Lat : 55.943N Lon : 3.272W ASL : 11m " This is approximately (given the postcode area) the correct location. They appear to have input degrees and seconds as decimal degrees... I reported this to Metcheck about 2 weeks ago but have had no reply. Geo |
