Simon -- The leaves change colours according to length of daylight mainly and also due to poor weather - it hasn't rained a drop since 1 Aug and we have had record-breaking temps, so I wouldn't be surprised. Seasonally leaves are shed in response to reduced daylight hours and
reduction in temperatures. The current shedding of leaves is due to "physiological shock" due to heat and low moisture levels in the soil reducing transpiration rates and effectively drying the leaves out causing the leaf stalks to become withered and brittle and breaking off. Dave |
