Sat down to watch TV and a bat hopped out in front of the sofa! (perhaps it
is too cold outside!)

Last summer on a particularly hot day I saw a bat fly out from a house,
fly over the road and nose-dive into the river. It then did a nice job
of swimming to the back and resting in the shade of some bushy plant. I
guess that the space under the roof must have got so hot the bat was
forced to go for the river.

Serious

Where about are you in the UK ?

What did you do with it ?
Hope you didn't put it in the shed as suggested, the temperature varies too much for
it to hibernate properly in there - needs a VERY slow change in temperatures to
hibernate...

If you want more info just ask, - you may be able to work out the email address from
the one you get here - or go have a read at http://www.bats.org.uk and I'm sure
they'll be interested to hear about it.

Nick in North Yorkshire - who's had a bat handlers licence with English Nature since
'92...!

Lord only knows how it got into the house - it would have certainly
struggled in here if I hadn't seen it as I'm away on hols for a week, so the
shed was the best option (well insulated metal one) considering the
neighbourhood cats were prowling outside....

A lot of people are renovating around here so I suspect they were unwitingly
disturbed, so I'm going to keep my eyes out for more.....
