Those wing-collar blouses caused much mirth in a classroom of boys. But surely king of the hippies was Michael Fish with his trademark university professor bushy, albeit thinning on top, hair; thick brown specs and turned down moustache. Sadly the 'tache became a pale shadow of its former glory in his last few years on the telly - same goes for the hair I s'pose. The other wonderful feature was those wonderful magnetic charts that must have taken hours to put together every forecast. Does anybody know if any of these charts / magnetic symbols still exist in an archive somewhere. I'd love to do up a room with these -I'd probably recreate Janary 17th, 1987, on my lounge wall. |

If I send him round, will he get cake? |

What about fridge magnets and some wall charts or something like the map from NASA or wherever? Sticky backed labels would do though for a permanent eulogy to naff. Actually if you really want naff, you only have to paint the wall black and get a photo of some tart huddled up against the wind and rain to place on it. That would make you look really up to date. |

Don't remember Barbara Edwards, though I do remember that style of
chart from the early 80s. How old was this? As for time of year, from the combination of temperatures, weather conditions and wind direction I'd guess either April or October. Nick |

Sorry, thought it was only one picture, page was slow to load.
The Michael Fish and Jim Bacon pictures from 1981/82 ring a bell though. I remember Michael Fish always used to be on in periods of good weather, and Jim Bacon in periods of bad weather. Those pictures would appear to bear that out... :-) Nick |
