Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Thursday. Issued
0542, 15 Jan 06. The runs continue to show a changable setup for the UK with weakening troughs crossing the British Isles, interspersed with brief ridges. As usual it'll be driest in the south and east, windiest in the west. Temperatures look like being average to above average in the main, with the really cold air staying to the east. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif Strong WSW'lies cover the UK due to a deep low to the NW. A trough moves swiftly eastwards at T+144, leaving the UK under westerlies. By T+168 winds become WSW'lies again as the result of a weak ridge over the North Sea. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif A mixture of SW'lies and SSE'lies covers the UK, which lies between a ridge to the SE and complex low pressure to the NW. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png GFS shows a trough to the west and a mixture of westerlies and SW'lies for the UK. The trough weakens over the North Sea at T+144, leading to anticyclonic NW'lies and westerlies for the UK. By T+168 pressure rises over France, resulting in WSW'lies for all. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html A strong westerly flow covers the UK with complex low pressure to the north and WNW. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...150000_120.gif The German run brings a trough over the UK. Ahead of the trough winds are SW'lies, with westerlies following behind. The winds become NW'lies at T+144 as the trough moves away to the east. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows SW'lies for all due to low pressure to the NW and a ridge over France. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif NOGAPS shows a similar setup, this time with WSW'lies instead of SW'lies. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A ridge from the east covers much of the UK, bringing easterlies across eastern areas of England. Elsewhere winds are southerlies or SSW'lies. |
