Default [WR] Early morning rain, sleet and snow - north Kent

I was awoken around half four this morning by some heavy rain drumming on
the roof - there was the odd flake of sleet mixed in (at 2.9C). I couldn't
get back to sleep so instead watched the rain becoming increasingly sleety,
then the sleet turned increasingly to snow.

By 5:40AM it was snowing with the temperature at 1.3C. Just after six
o'clock it stopped, with the temperature by now at 0.8C. The temperature's
since recovered to 1.2C, but I'd imagine as that lot heads inland some areas
could well see an inch or more of snow!

WR refers to Leysdown, north Kent, 10m ASL.

Don't know how you managed to record 0.8C, I live just around the corner in
Warden Bay and the minimum I have is 3.0C and currently 3.8C. 3.1C in
Sheerness at present with a dew point at 7:58 of +2.0C. Not cold enough for
snow!

Well, the temperature's now reading 1.5C (grass 1.9C). I suspect it's the
fact I'm an extra half mile away from the sea that's making the difference.

Could be that the extra half mile is making all the difference, although, it
does seem like a particularly large difference for such a short distance. I
just spoke with my parents who live in Gillingham and they have complete
snow cover ( it's not fair ). I suppose with a sea temp of +8 or +9C we are
always going to be pushing our luck. I was however, pleasantly surprised a
week ago at just how much we got, despite temps not being much lower than at
present ( currently +4.6C ).
