Default clean highs, thin blood and the jump from summer to winter

With yet another clear and frosty morning I've been impressed how this
high pressure seems to have stayed "clean" of cloud. In recent winters
whenever high pressure has become established we normally get one
really cold night before the system becomes clogged with cloud - with
days of anticyclonic gloom. But this seems different - like
anticyclones in the 80s.

It's also strange the jump to such cold temperatures - just a couple of
weeks back I'm sure the nightime temperatures were in double figures.
Did anyone have problems with trying to get warm yesterday? - I'm sure
my blood must be thinner than normal and that the lack of any autumn
has not given the body a chance to thicken it up in time for winter.

Freezing fog will become more of a problem over the next few nights and
days, particularly over England and Wales.

Dare I say it but met check acticle stated it was because the high
moved south causing "the base of the high to be warmed" if the high
moves north it is "cooled at the base" so producing cloud.

Don't know about that it seems more likely that the feed of air has
been dry with no atlantic influence or fronts going round the edge of
the system. I'm sure tha if the high moves south atall then weak fronts
will get trapped in it giving gloom.

Thanks.
