Default How long does an Ice Age take to begin? Anyone??

I am constantly hearing/seeing people [99% saying it politically] that
we're having a global warming event because of man-made actions.

Let's just cut to the chase: Ok, fine, we're in the middle of global
warming.
QUESTION: Since fossil-fuel burning on a large scale didn't occur
until the mid 1800's, how low will it be before this current global
warming will cause the next Ice Age?

I have been told/read/hear that Global Warming's ultimate outcome is
another Ice Age.

QUESTION:Am I to believe that in only 200 or so years that this earth
went from "stable" to "on the path to an Ice Age"??

Also, if all this is true then why have we not experienced billions
and billions of ice ages on this planet?

Is there any record of billions of ice ages occurring on this planet?

QUESTION:If man has caused this global warming then WHO caused the
last one?

QUESTION: Which would be more harmful to the upper atmosphere
1. Continue burning fossil fuels at current rate for next 100 years
2. Allow 100 years of natural causes such as THE SUN's trapped heat
and numerous volcanic eruptions which do occur.

I am going to go with #2 because the entire planet could go 100% solar
power and those volcanoes would do their job a whole lot faster and
better than we humans could dare dream.

I think that the best way to approach global warming is through
investments in weather/climate modification.

We could have numerous space station type bodies that would detect a
problem in a region and correct it with heating and/or cooling effects
at the surface and upper atmosphere.

Too much rain in florida? Fix the clouds, break them up every time
they appear until rain is appropriate.

Severe weather outbreak of tornadoes about to occur? Easy:Heat the
highest cloud tops to a point that the lapse rates are that of a
gentle rain event.

EXCUSE me if I am more concerned with tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.
I'm so sorry to be afraid of tornadoes, forgive me people.

Where I live, we had a winter one time where the low temp was -10F in
1985. And then a summer of 106F.

That is a big range in temps considering each occurred less than 6
months from the other temp.

ALSO: Anyone want to discuss how the earth is getting warmer because
the Earth's revolutions around the Sun are getting shorter because of
the decaying orbit of the Earth with relation to the Sun?

Yes that's right. We're getting closer to the sun. No it cannot be
measured in terms of tectonic plate movement which everyone loves to
talk about. You know the one about how fault line movement is going to
cause the western part of california to separate from california? Yes,
that will happen in perhaps 50K years or more, but it IS going to
happen.

Now back to the decaying orbit of the earth around the sun. Please
tell me how all these environmentally friendly energy sources are
going to reverse this decay in orbit?

Imagine its the year 5050 and everyone uses friendly energy, no
emissions and everyone is dancing in the streets. ALL THE WHILE the
Earth is 10 inches+ closer to the sun. Scientist [well actually
politicians] would scratch their heads wondering what they 'forgot' to
do?

There is NOT going to be a forever and ever Earth.
Notice all those stars you see at night? Guess what? 1/3rd of the ones
you see are already gone. They supernova a long time ago and have
since went dim.
Our sun has something more than 1 billion[or is it 1 million] years
left. Now I know 1 million years is a long time [to humans] but can
you imagine what it's going to be like on Earth when, based on current
orbit around the sun, we're about 100 miles closer?
How about 1 mile closer? Wanna tell me how fossil-fuel burning caused
that one?

You want clean air/water, fine no problem.
As our economy stands this 'dream' is not going to happen until
BUSINESS decides it's time. A time table set up by government's will
do nothing but destroy the economy. You do not want to do this.

Also this bit about cleaner cars is a hoot. Even if car companies
decide today to do nothing BUT produce non fossil fuel burning cars,
the cost of each car would be so high that no one making less than
$100K per year could afford one. And even then they could only buy ONE
car.
Everyone would be 'forced' to use public transportation. You think
that's a great idea but wait until you decide to ride that bus you
never rode before. Guess what, not enough buses. Take a city like
atlanta. Atlanta would likely have to increase the number of public
transportation services by at least 1,000% [in the first week].
Who is going to pay for this? Also, are we going to allow
police/emergency/fire to ride around in those $100,000 cars?

What would the budget in your city be for the fire/emergency/police
service? Would it also go up to a level the city could sustain?
Sure we could raise taxes. Imagine that for a moment. You just quit
you job because you needed a job [really] close to home. So you took a
pay cut. Meantime everything related to transportation went up to,
food, clothing, merchandise of any kind. Now with all this your city
decides they need more tax money? YEAH this scenario is sounding so
wonderful now. I have tears in my eyes because I want this to happen
so bad.

Could ONE or ALL of you in here answer the questions of have asked?
Also could you "please" discuss/debate/correct me, on some of the
issues I have talked about?

Again, My main concern right now are deadly winds, tornadoes.
My life is very short, I 'might' live to be 80 yrs old. Many things
could kill me that are climate/weather related. I think high winds and
tornadoes are #1 on that list. If the pacific/atlantic oceans temp
rises 2c in the next 100 years I won't notice that because those
tornadoes don't seem to care it's 2006 as opposed to 1974 [gee wonder
why I mentioned 1974?]

I'm just asking for a good honest discussion, no name-calling, no
chest beating rants.

I may come off as being upset so you will have to forgive me on that
one.

anyone? humor me for at least one round please?

thanks,
